The Campaign for Safe Communities is a network of civil society organisations, social movements, research institutions and individuals who have the joint goal of creating a safe South Africa for all. We aim to create safe communities for all people in South Africa regardless of nationality, race, occupation, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability.

Our mission is to act as a network that shares information, research, skills and experience. Current focus points include:

  • Supporting the O’Regan/Pikoli Commission of Inquiry
  • Educating the public on:
    • Their constitutional rights
    • The causes of crime
    • The criminal justice system
  • Supporting the development of safe environments, including:
    • Provision of street lights
    • Safe crèches and schools
    • Youth development
    • Safe public spaces
    • Sanitation facilities close to homes
  • Supporting the marginalised and vulnerable
  • Participating in government processes and make submissions on draft policies, legislation and budgets
